THE EAST WOODSTOCK CORNET BAND
Vincent LaMonica
EWCB Director
Noted for his "rippling and elegant" bassoon playing, Vincent LaMonica (b. 1993, he/him/his) enjoys a busy and multi-faceted career as a performer, conductor, and educator. Vinny has performed with the symphony orchestras of Albany (NY), Springfield (MA), Portland (ME), Ridgefield (CT), and Bangor (ME), the Cape Symphony (MA), and the Rhode Island Philharmonic on bassoon and contrabassoon. As a soloist, he has performed Dana Wilson's "Avatar" Concerto for bassoon and wind ensemble at Northwestern University, Robert W. Smith's "Willson Suite" for euphonium and concert band, and Herbert Clarke's "Bride of the Waves" for euphonium (originally cornet) and concert band.
He conducts the East Woodstock (CT) Cornet Band and the Babcock Cornet Band in his rural hometown, Ashford, Connecticut. He teaches private lessons at his Quiet Corner Music Studio in addition to teaching at Choate Rosemary Hall, Union School, and The Hartt School. Vinny serves as Assistant Director of the Bassoon Workshop at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute (BUTI), and in 2020, he directed the Connecticut Music Educators Association's Southern Region High School Band.
Vinny earned his Master's Degree from the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University under the tutelage of David McGill. His previous teachers included Nancy Goeres, Margaret Phillips, and Ronald Haroutunian at Boston University.
Vinny prioritizes using his multi-faceted career to showcase excellent music from under-represented population and the incredible composers who create it. In addition to commissioning living composers and joining commissioning consortia, Vinny is a board member of the Women Composers Festival of Hartford, the longest-running Festival of its kind. The WCFH promotes the music of contemporary and historical women composers during a yearly Festival in March, featuring a Music Marathon, Scholarly Symposium, Emerging Composers Workshop, and an international Call for Scores.
